Bester helps Arrows win City thriller

A stoppage time goal by Rudolf Bester handed Golden Arrows a late 3-2 Absa Premiership win over Polokwane City in an Absa Premiership match at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

Boebie Solomons’ men fought back from two penalties by Thanduyise Khuboni but failed to hold on to the 2-2 scoreline as Arrows pounced at the final whistle.

Arrows arrived at the grounds under peculiar circumstances with head coach Mark Harrison and his son and team goalkeeper, Ryan Harrison, having disappeared from the squad.

Festus Mbewe sent Polokwane City a message early on when he burst into the box and fired a left-footed drive which flew narrowly high over the angular of the frame.

Galabgwe Moyana was the first to test Arthur Bartman in goal with his curving free-kick in the 15th minute which forced the debutant shot-stopper to make the save.

Five minutes later Modiri Marumo was tested on the line and his kick up field from the resulting save allowed for Polokwane City to go on the counter-attack. And it saw Puleng Tlolane run in on goal before sending a looping ball past Bartman and into the back of the net.

Parity was restored when Vuysile Ntombaythethi was brought down in the box by Thapelo Tshilo soon after the half hour mark. Thanduyise Khuboni converted from six-yards out to make it 1-1.

Marumo performed a great save just minutes later when he beat away Bongi Ntuli’s snapshot inside the box, before seeing an effort from his save blasted straight over the bar.

A second penalty was handed to Arrows three minutes from the break when a trailing leg saw Victor Gomes point to the spot for the second time of the afternoon. Khuboni did the business again for the home side.

The referee had the last say going into the break when he handed Polokwane City a controversial penalty despite Chris Katjiukua having seemingly won the ball in the box. Siphesihle Nzimande put the away side level for the second time of the afternoon when his second attempt at the spot-kick was converted.

Polokwane City showed a lot more composure coming out of the interval while Golden Arrows struggled to threaten when they worked their way into the box.

Up until the final minute there was little action to report when Rudolf Bester came off the bench and slotted a stoppage time winner past Marumo to hand Arrows a 3-2 victory.
