Pirates get third win of the week

Orlando Pirates notched up their third win in as many matches this week when they outwitted Golden Arrows 3-1 at the Orlando Stadium on Sunday afternoon in an Absa Premiership match.

Oupa Manyisa scored a brace with Happy Jele scoring the opening goal for Roger De Sa’s men, while Gift Sithole netted for Arrows.

Arrows had their first opportunity of the match in the ninth minute when talented forward Bongi Ntuli showed some great skill to lose his experienced marker Lucky Lekgwathi to set up Ntlantla Zothwane with a volley, but his shot was saved by Pirates keeper Senzo Meyiwa.

Pirates took the lead in the 13th minute when Arrows keeper Ryan Harrison fumbled the ball after a save, as he attempted to gather the ball, Jele was on hand to toe-poke it home.

Arrows replied immediately after just conceding. Their skipper Sithole rose the highest in the box and powered home a thumping header that Meyiwa could not even get a hand onto, 1-1 in the 15th minute.

The players and match officials went on a minute’s water break in the 24th minute and immediately after that Arrows went behind again.

Jele was the provider this time as he sent in a quality low cross into the box which Manyisa slammed home from close range with the Arrows defence well out of position.

Seven minutes into the second half Arrows could have levelled the same way they had done earlier. Sithole again thumped a powerful header from a corner kick cross, it was goal bound but Meyiwa pulled off a stupendous acrobatic save to deny the Arrows captain.

On the hour mark, Pirates could have had a two goal cushion. Kermitt Erasmus peeled off his marker, found himself in an acute angle, but managed to release a snap shot which painfully for the Bucs fans shaved the post.

Sifiso Myeni illustrated some brilliant skill when he lost his maker in the box and hit an instant shot which Harrison did well to save as he made the angle difficult to shoot for the former Bidvest Wits winger.

In the final minutes of the match Manyisa put the result out of doubt when Daine Klate picked him out with a superb through ball and the midfield ace slotted home with only the keeper to beat.
