Ngalande wins it for Wits

Robin Ngalande’s first half header sealed all three points for Bidvest Wits as they defeated Lamontville Golden Arrows 1-0 at the Bidvest Stadium in an Absa Premiership match played on Wednesday night.

In only the second minute of the match, the home side could have taken the lead when Sibusiso Vilakazi tricked his way into the box and supplied a pass to find Benjani, who was just six-yards out and with only the keeper to beat, but his attempted tap-in went inches wide.

On the half hour mark the home fans were in song as their team opened the scoring.

Substitute Bongolwethu Jayiya who had just been on the field for the injured Denver Mukamba, found some space on the right flank and sent a delightful cross into the box which Ngalende headed home with a powerful diving effort, 1-0.

Five minutes into the second half, Bnejani went close again. This time Jayiya was the supplier as he sent a cross into the box, but the Zimbabwean could only head wide from close range once again.

Two minutes later Benjani continued his series of misses. Ngalende brought the spectators to their feet with some lovely skills that bamboozled the Arrows defence before passing to Benjani, leaving him with only the keeper to beat but he fired wide.

On the hour mark, Jayiya was sent one-on-one with the keeper, but his poor decision making first saw him lose ground and then momentum which resulted in him ultimately shooting wide from a tight angle.

The match ended in favour of the home side as Gavin Hunt bagged his first league win as Wits coach.
