Ajax aiming for better start against Arrows

Golden Arrows will begin their 2013/14 Absa Premiership season at home to Ajax Cape Town at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday, 03 August 2013, kick-off at 15h00.

Arrows had a disappointing season in 2012/13, claiming just 31 points to finish 13th on the log. They were just three points above the relegation zone.

Abafana Bes’thende’s next three league fixtures see them take on Bidvest Wits (away), Mamelodi Sundowns (home) and Polokwane City (away).

Ajax had an equally difficult 2012/13 campaign. They also claimed just 31 points and finished 14th, just one place above the relegation zone.

The Urban Warriors’ next three fixtures see them take on Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu (both home) and Bidvest Wits (away).

In head-to-head stats, Arrows and Ajax have met in 26 league matches since 2000/01.

The Cape side has claimed 10 wins compared to seven for the Durban side, while nine matches have ended in draws.

Arrows have a decent home record against Ajax, with six wins, three draws and four losses from 13 matches in KwaZulu-Natal.

The teams’ two league matches last season saw the home sides pick up three points. Abafana Bes’thende won 2-0 at home in the first half of the season, while the Urban Warriors replied with a 3-0 victory in the return.

Arrows’ win was their first at home to Ajax since 2008/09, with two draws and a win for the Cape side in the three intervening matches between the teams in Durban.
