Newcomers Vasco Da Gama will play Orlando Pirates at 18h00 while Ajax Cape Town take on Bloemfontein Celtic in the evening’s other match scheduled for a 20h45 kick-off.
“I must thank all parties concerned for ensuring that we kick off the Absa Premiership in fine style,” said Siem.
“There are many challenges associated with hosting an event of this nature, but thanks to the co-operation of the teams, stadium management, our league sponsor, broadcasters and the City of Cape Town, we are now able to provide fans with a pure soccer spectacular.”
“The spirit of the 2010 World Cup needs to continue and I’m confident that the PSL will be able to provide the public with the necessary soccer entertainment throughout the season,” commented Siem.
The 2010/2011 Absa Premiership fixture schedule was also amended slightly.
Two blocks of fixtures were adjusted to accommodate the FIFA dates as well as Bafana Bafana.
Matches that were meant to have been played on 01 September 2010 have been moved to 08 September 2010 and the block of fixtures scheduled for 06 October 2010 will now be played on 22 September 2010.
