Moroka Swallows and Black Aces drew 1-1 in a friendly match at the Delville Sports Ground in Germiston on Wednesday afternoon.

South Africa international Siyabonga Nomvethe scored first for the hosts and former Maritzburg United striker Brice Aka equalised in the second half.

The match was played at high-tempo but it was the Dube Birds that were more fluid in attack. Nomvethe, together with Augustine Leonard and Shaun Haschick troubled the Aces defence with their speed and neat passing, creating numerous chances in the first stanza.

Nomvethe especially was lively and had three good chances to score in the first half but Aces goalie Francis Chansa stopped all his goal-bound shots.

“Their keeper is very good,” Swallows coach Rainer Zobel commented.

“I am very pleased that the boys played this way today, we had tough training sessions for the past two days and I was not expecting them to play so fast and for so long.”

Besides former Bay United playmaker Gareth Ncaca, who is still on trail with the team, Zobel is happy with the players he has at his disposal.

“I would like Gareth to stay, he has not signed yet but we will finalize soon. I think we need a striker but this is a very good team and we are happy with the experienced and young players we have.”

Next week Swallows will play Santos FC and Golden Arrows in preparation for the 2010/11 Absa Premiership season.
