AmaZulu FC are proud to announce that they have secured the services of one of the country’s most highly rated coaches, Manqoba Mngqithi.
The club announced earlier this week that they will be no longer retaining Neil Tovey and subsequently moved very fast to bring the talented Mngqithi on board.
Mngqithi is regarded by many to be one of the league’s top coaches, and is certainly the best young coach in the PSL
At only 39-years old, he has been with fellow KZN side Golden Arrows since 2007.
Arrows’ playing style, regarded by many as a true brand of South African soccer, has been the envy of most PSL clubs.
During his time at MTN8 champions Abafana Bes’thende, the former school teacher proved himself to an astute judge of raw talent as he uncovered a string of local gems, an attribute that will fit hand in glove at Usuthu, where an emphasis is also placed on developing players from the surrounding areas.
“I’m very excited to join a team with such great history in South African soccer and with a fantastic supporter base. I’m happy to be joining another club in KZN - I wouldn’t have liked to leave the province where I know the culture of the players, so I’m very happy with this move
“I believe that the style of football I bring to the club will have a lot to offer to the supporters, and at the same time the players will always be upbeat to play in front of an average home crowd of around 8000 people, or more,” said Mngqithi.
The coach believes the right balance of youth and experience will be key to a successful team:
“It is my philosophy and my belief that the best players come from the youth and I’m very excited because AmaZulu also have a Vodacom side which will be a very good feeder team for the first team squad.
“I’m hopeful that I will be able to bring in new young players into the team because my style of play requires a lot of energy and speed.
“At the same time though its also very encouraging to know that AmaZulu have good experience within their ranks at the moment who will bring in a very good balance to the team.”
AmaZulu Communications Officer Philani Mabaso says that the club is ready to back Mngqithi is the transfer market.
“We are proud of the way the club has identified and promoted local talent, and we will continue to follow this trend and place an emphasis on our youth structures.
“However, substantial support will be readily made available to the new coach – he will have our full backing in the decisions he makes and we will ensure that he has everything in place to maximise his success at AmaZulu as the club endeavours by all means to bring back the glory days to the team.”
Mabaso is 100% confident the club has the right man in Mngqithi:
“We are extremely excited to have Manqoba Mngqithi on board and are confident that he will usher in a new era of success at the club.
“He is a talented young coach who has proven himself in the PSL, and who also is a keen student of the game, having taken several trips to Brazil and Spain to enhance his skills,” said Mabaso.
