Kaizer Chiefs goalie Arthur Bartman says coach Vladimir Vermezovic is the main reason behind the Soweto team’s Telkom Knockout Cup final victory against Ajax Cape Town on Saturday night at the Absa Stadium in Durban.

The veteran goalkeeper stood firm after an early wave of attacks from Ajax to help Chiefs to a 2-1 win. Mandla Masango and Knowledge Musona scored for Chiefs with Diyo Sibisi netting late on for the Cape side.

The result ensured that Amakhosi continued their trend of picking up a trophy every year - a feat they have achieved in the past five seasons.

"We just want to thank the coach, he has been pushing us at training and we deserve this title because of him," the KwaZulu-Natal native said.

"It was always our goal to win the trophy in our 40 year anniversary and we were confident that we will win it.”

"Is a great feeling winning this trophy and we also wanted to win the league but unfortunately we couldn't win it, but we are happy that we did well in this competition and we deserve to win it for our supporters who have been with us throughout."

Chiefs only conceded one goal in the competition which came in the final despite them facing off against the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, who they beat 1-0, and Orlando Pirates in the semi-final – a game they won via a penalty shootout.

Bartman felt that the club's back four also deserve a special mention.

"The defence also have to be praised I mean without them I couldn't have achieve this, overall I'm happy about it, it shows that we are improving some where and we just need to keep it going," he concluded.
