Two second-half goals from Zambian international Clifford Mulenga sent Black Aces in to a penalty shootout where they beat Black Leopards 5-3 at the Ackerville Stadium on Wednesday.
In the first-leg Leopards won 2-1, the visitors took the lead early on and looked set for a win but Mulenga’s double-strike meant the aggregate score was 3-3 and the winner had to be determined via penalties.
“We knew we had what it takes to win this game,” said Mulenga. “Our focus has always been to stay in the PSL because campaigning in the NFD was not in our plans.”
The player did not want to take all the credit for the victory instead he credited the whole team for the win and mentioned how the great support from management rallied them to be triumphant.
“I don’t want to take the credit for this win, because it was a team effort. I could not have done by myself,” said the Aces striker.
“The great support we received from management made the job a lot easier for us and enabled us to focus on the task at hand which was retaining our PSL status.”
The former Bidvest Wits player was quick to dismiss talk of him moving away from the Emalahleni side and reiterated his commitment to the team and also mentioned his desire to repay the fans for their continued support.
“I’m comfortable here and I have no intentions of leaving this side”, said the former Tuks man. “The team has a lot of fans who are fully behind us and it is my wish to repay them for the enormous support they have made known to us during this difficult time.”
