Frustration and despair continued for the misfiring Platinum Stars after losing 1-0 to Ajax Cape Town in an Absa Premiership match played at the Moruleng Stadium on Wednesday night.
Ajax striker Dipsy Selolwane scored the only goal of the game in the second half to give the visitors three points.
The Cape side are missing several key players, five are away on national under-20 duty while key player Franklyn Cale was missing due to a suspension.
Just like they have done in the past four games where they failed to score, Stars looked impressive in their general play only to be let down by their finishing.
The hosts could have taken the lead in the first minute when veteran striker Alton Meiring delivered a telling cross from the left to midfielder Kagiso Senamela in the big box, but he shot wide off the target.
Meiring had a good chance to score in the 17th minute but the Ajax defenders closed in on the striker and cleared the ball before he could shoot.
Five minutes before the break Stars midfielder Thabiso Monareng wasted the game's best opportunity when he blasted his shot over the cross-bar with only the keeper to beat.
Ajax also had their moments on the attack in this game but they could not beat Stars goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands until Botswana international striker Selolwane finally scored in the 76th minute with a close range shot.
In the closing stages Stars threw everything they had at Ajax but they just could not beat their defence and remain in 14th place while the winners move up to third on the Premiership table.
