Struggling Ajax Cape Town are looking to beef up their squad in the upcoming transfer window.

The Cape side currently find themselves in 11th position, just four points off 16th placed AmaZulu.

Injuries, especially in defence, have hurt Ajax, while up front they appear to be short of options.

Alcaardo van Graan, the ex Milano United striker, has failed to establish himself as a regular in the PSL, leaving Bradley Grobler as the club’s only recognised striker.

But the former Platinum Stars player has not found his scoring boots yet, while moving Khama Billiat up front has also not entirely yielded the desired results.

Caretaker coach Jan Pruijn admits the team is light in attack. “We have Khama Billiat and Bradley Grobler, I respect that, but if we can find another player that can score goals, I’m not stepping away from that,” he said.

Pruijn confirmed Ajax will be active in the transfer window, but wasn’t revealing any specific targets at this stage. “We have a list, but the list is on paper and it’s for internal use only.

“Everyone at the club, management, technical staff have agreed that we need two players in this squad at least to have a better chance to make the top eight.

“We will see before the Christmas break exactly what players we need to have for a little bit more quality to get some goals, I think it’s a priority.”

The Urban Warriors’ next challenge is up in Durban, where they face Golden Arrows on Sunday. Mathew Booth and Thulani Hlatshwayo will face late fitness tests for this game,

Meanwhile, down the road in Philippi, Chippa United find themselves in a similar predicament: struggling near the bottom of the table and with a lack of options in the striking department.

But the Chilli Boys are already addressing the issue – they recently signed Namibian international Wilko Risser, who the club hope to have ready for this weekend’s basement clash with AmaZulu in Cape Town.

The 30-year-old has significant experience having played in Germany.

Niger striker Moussa Maazou is also expected the join Chippa in January, while there is currently talk in the media that the club are interested in signing former Santos marksman Erwin Isaacs from Bidvest Wits.
