Dutch coach Jan Versleijen has emerged as a contender for the Ajax Cape Town coaching job.

Versleijen and current caretaker boss Jan Pruijn are understood to be the only two remaining in the battle for the head coach role, with a decision expected in the coming days.

Pruijn is a coach with a good knowledge of South African football, having worked in the country for some years now. He is officially the technical director at Ajax and has been filling in as head coach since the departure of Maarten Stekelenburg earlier this month.

He has overseen a win at AmaZulu, as well as the penalty shoot-out loss to SuperSport United at the weekend.

Versleijen is a coach who has worked all over the world, in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Australiasia.

He has a good record as a youth coach, an important quality for the Ajax job, and was until last year in charge of the Australian Under-17 and Under-20 sides.

He began his coaching career in 1982 and has worked in the Netherlands with VV Venlo, De Graafschap and Go Ahead Eagles.
