Striker Collins Mbesuma is finally off the mark for Orlando Pirates however, the Zambian international is not celebrating just yet.
Mbesuma recently netted a brace in the 3-1 win over Pretoria University to send Pirates to second place – only four points behind rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
Speaking to Orlandopiratesfc.com, the burly striker said although he is pleased to be off the mark for his new club, there’s still a lot of work to be done, if keeping a starting berth is concerned.
Ntofotofo as he is affectionately known said that the competition for places is high and there is never a day a player can relax especially with the likes of Benni McCarthy, Ndumiso Mabena, Takesure Chinyama, Bongani Ndulula and Thulasizwe Mbuyane all vying for the same striking position.
“We have top strikers in my position,” says Mbesuma. “The competition for places here (Pirates) is very high. One needs to be at the top of his game to continue playing.
“As a striker, you are judged by the goals you score so obviously I am delighted to have scored a brace against Tuks. However, my job is not done, I need to continue where I left off by continuing to bang them in as that’s what I have been bought here to do.
“The goals have gone a long way in building my confidence, I will take it one game at a time though, and hopefully sooner rather than later, I’ll be scoring on a more consistent basis.
He added: “I cannot afford to be complacent.”
