Onyekachi Okonkwo says he is finally settled into life at the Buccaners and is confident that this he can produce the same performances that earned him an international move to FC Zurich in 2007.
Okonkwo who played an instrumental role in the team’s 3-1 victory against Pretoria University, has expressed his happiness to be playing more regularly.
In his interview with Orlandopiratesfc.com, Tiko reveals that he has been tirelessly working with Fitness Trainer Japhet Borges since returning to the club to regain his match fitness.
The 30 year old has made four appearances so far in the league and was voted Man of the Match in the club’s away loss to Bloemfontein Celtic a fourth night ago.
“The tempo at Pirates is quite high and I had to work hard to reach the level the rest of the squad is at. In the match against Tuks I needed to test myself just to see how my body would respond to playing 90 minutes at high intensity and I was happy with the outcome,” said Okonkwo.
“I think in terms of fitness I am getting there; the only thing that is left for me is to understand the guys (teammates) a lot better – things have changed substantially since I left.
“Overall, I think I have finally settled, I’m enjoying my football again and that is the most important thing for me right now,” he concluded.
