Pretoria University midfielder Mpho Maruping could miss the rest of the season after suffering possible multiple knee damage last week.
Doctors must still make a solid prognosis of his prospects, and a second MRI scan is to be performed this week, but coach Steve Barker says it looks a serous injury.
Maruping fell awkwardly during the match against Platinum Stars last week and “it looks as if he has done more than just tear the ligaments. There was multiple damage,” the coach told supersport.com.
“The doctors will do another scan but it does not look good for the rest of the season.’
The 21-year-old Maruping had made a dream start to his career in the top flight with two goals in five starts for AmaTuks so fart his new season.
He go the only goal in the student’s first away win against Lamontville Golden Arrows and another a fortnight later when they shocked Moroka Swallows away in Dobsonville.
Maruping was one of many pre-season signings by Barker, who picked him up for free after is contract at Atlie FC of the National First Diviison came to an end. Maruping had played at Nathi Lions before that and also represented South Africa at under-20 level.
