Mfundo Shumana has signed a three-year deal at Chippa United as the club rushes to bed down players before the start of the new season in less than a fortnight.

The midfielder had been on loan at the ‘Chilli Boys’ last season and played a pivotal part in their gaining promotion, via a dramatic play-off series, to the Premier Soccer League.

The club announced the deal on Monday as they continue to try and add experience to their squad.

Shumana, 26, spent five seasons at Ajax Cape Town before the released him. He went onto join Moroka Swallows but made just 12 starts in two seasons before going back to Ajax last year.

Ajax then loaned him to Chippa United as they sought promotion from the National First Division.

Chippa United, who begin their first-ever campaign away at Mamelodi Sundowns, have been in Johannesburg over the last week to prepare for the new season.

They have also done deals in recent days with defender Msekeli Mvalo from Lamontville Golden Arrows and midfielder Diego Brown from Free State Stars.
