“I thought we played well in the first half but in the second half it was more even,” said Ferguson. “We tried to play some good football and we are pleased with the result.”
United striker Fabricio Macheda scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute.
“I’m happy that we could give Nelson Mandela a birthday present,” he said jokingly.
“We played well and I am happy with the players. It’s back to preparation for us and it is going really well,” said Usuthu coach Palmgren.
Former Bulgarian international and United forward Dimitar Berbatov received the man of the match award for his performance.
“I always play to enjoy the game, I still enjoy playing and I want you (fans) to enjoy it as well. It was fun and I am looking forward to the next match,” the former Tottenham Hotspurs player said.
AmaZulu captain Ayanda Dlamini who missed at least three scoring chances said they were not at their best yet.
“We still have a few more weeks to go before the season starts and although most of us are fit, we are not match fit. A few more games and we’ll be good,” Dlamini said.
United take on Ajax Cape Town this Saturday at the Cape Town Stadium in their second and final match of the MTN tour.
