BidVest Wits and Bafana Bafana striker Ryan Chapman will begin training on his own this week in the hope of being fully fit for the start of the 2012/13 Absa Premiership season.

The 25-year-old was one of the stand-out players of the last campaign, until a serious leg break suffered against Santos on February 18 put an end to his season.

He had made his national team debut the month before in Equatorial Guinea, and also played in the training matches against Zambia and Ghana later in January.

He was in the form of his life for The Students, helping them to the Telkom Knockout Final in December.

As part of a three-pronged attack, Chapman scored seven goals in 17 starts for Wits last season, and despite playing only half the campaign was the joint top-scorer for the club with the two Vilakazis, Sifiso and Sibusiso.

The forward will be a key part of the plans of Wits coach Roger de Sa in the coming campaign as the club builds an impressive squad to push for top honours.

Already signed are Bafana midfielder Matthew Pattison, who spent the second half of last season with Santos, Nigerian defender Ayo Oluwafemi and ex-Bloemfontein Celtic winger Thokozani Mshengu.

Ex-Bafana skipper Aaron Mokoena is poised to join too as De Sa adds experience to what is a very young group of players.
