Moroka Swallows scored three goals in the first half as Mbulelo Mabizela, David Mathebula and Bennett Chenene all found the back of the net to hand the Birds a 3-0 win over Bidvest Wits in an Absa Premiership match at the Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday night.

In only the second minute Swallows were in the lead as they forced an error from the Wits defence. Wits centre half Mabizela netted in his own net when his right-footed clearance found the back of his own net to make it 1-0 to Swallows.

Swallows were in ascendency and soon made it 2-0 two minutes later. Lerato Chabangu crossed in from the right side of penalty area and Mathebula scored with a right-footed shot into the bottom-right of goal from left side of six-yard box.

Wits were reduced to shooting from range early on in an effort to reduce the deficit.

Sibusiso Vilakazi drilled in a right-footed shot from over 35-yards out, but saw his shot saved by Swallows keeper Greg Etafia.

But in the 22nd second minute the Students were made to pay again.

Chabangu was once again the provider from the right side when he set up Chenene and the left winger’s left-footed shot into the top-left corner of the net from right side of six-yard box made it 3-0 to Swallows.

Roger De Sa’s young men went into the break trailing by 3-0 against the experienced Birds outfit.

In the 56th minute, Swallows captain Lefa Tsutsulupa unleashed a right-footed shot 20 yards from the right side, but it went over the bar.

The Birds were in full flight and at it again two minutes later when a shot by Chabangu from 30-yards out on the right channel was saved by Wits goalkeeper Emile Baron.

In the 76th minute, Wits had a chance to get a goal back when Swallows defender Luvhengo Mungomeni was adjudged to have fouled Wits striker Bradley Ritson in the box.

A powerful penalty taken right-footed by Sibusiso Vilakazi towards the bottom-left of goal was brilliantly saved by Etafia.

The match ended 3-0 with the Birds gaining revenge over the Students who knocked them out of the Nedbank Cup a few weeks ago.
