Lebogang Manyama’s injury time goal secured a third straight win for Ajax Cape Town as they beat Black Leopards 4-3 at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday evening.
It took the home team just two minutes to take the lead as Brent Carelse expertly volleyed home from 14-yards out after Leopards had failed to clear a cross from George Maluleka.
The travelling side could well have been back in the game three minutes later when the ball broke kindly for Thomas Madimba, but from close range Sander Westerveld made a world-class save to deflect the ball wide of goal.
Lidoda Duhva were however right back in the contest in the 16th minute when Rodney Ramagalela turned and rifled home an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area.
Two minutes later and the Urban Warriors were close to getting back into the lead when Manyama cut in from the left, but his shot was well saved by Posnett Omony.
The Limpopo side began to show signs of a threat in attack and in the 35th minute their efforts were rewarded when Madimba’s corner kick was headed home by Kingston Nkhatha.
But the lead only lasted two minutes as Brett Evans restored parity with a swerving shot from 30-yards out which Omony got a hand to, but was not able to keep out of the net.
With the first half deep in injury time the Cape side were back in front, courtesy of a well-taken header from Matthew Booth.
The second half started brightly, and remained fast-paced.
Yet there were few chances at either end as both sides found their final balls into the box lacking somewhat.
Ajax had several moves involving good build up play, but too often it failed to translate into chances.
Manyama was having a strong game and nearly got a 76th minute goal, but his volley was tipped over the bar by Omony.
Three minutes later the hosts were again close as Maluleka curled an effort onto the roof of the net from some range out.
There was a flurry of goals in the closing moments of the game.
The visiting side made it 3-3 in the 91st minute when Nkhatha got his second, another header.
But with just seconds to go the Cape side secured the win when Manyama pounced on a loose ball to hammer it into the roof of the net.
