Following their triumphant march in the Telkom Knockout 2011/2012, champions Orlando Pirates players dominated the TKO awards held in Johannesburg today.

Pirates claimed the trophy on Saturday defeating BidVest Wits 3-1 at the majestic Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Pirates goalminder, Moeneeb Josephs was voted by the judges as the Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Josephs walks away with the R100 000 in prize money. He beat the likes of Greig Etafia and BidVest Wit’s Energy Murambadoro.

The Pirates shot-stopper was instrumental in some of Buc’s triumphs in this tournament with his match-winning saves.

Siyabonga Sangweni, who was one of Buc’s star signings during the off-season walked away with the Defender of the Tournament award.

Since trading the Golden Arrows jersey for the black and white colours, Sangweni has been impressive in the last line of defence for Pirates. He does not only command the defence line, but he has scored some crucial goals for Bucs – including an outstanding performance against his former side in the semi-finals.

BidVest Wit’s innovative midfielder, Sifiso Myeni took the Midfielder of the Tournament award. Myeni has been a marvel to watch in Wits colours this season. This category was obviously highly contested looking at the quality of midfielders available in the country at the moment.

Myeni beat Pirates duo; Oupa Manyisa, Isaac Chansa and teammates, Asive Langwe and Sibusiso Vilakazi.

As no-one scored the stipulated five goals to claim the Top goalscorer of the Tournament prize-money of R150 000, this award was changed to “Striker of the Tournament.”

South Africa’s all time goalscorer, Benni McCarthy claimed the prize and walked away with R100 000. McCarthy – to borrow words from Gordon Igesund – has been the difference between Pirates and opponents this season.

While he has scored some beautiful goals, he has also been the catalyst behind most of Buc’s goals this season. McCarthy scored a total of three goals in the campaign.

The awards judging panelare: Marks Maponyane (Convener), Shadrack Ngema, Clint Roper, Mazola Molefe, Jonty Mark, Sizwe Mabena.
